The latest in nitrogen portable generators are able to process nitrogen with a new process which relies on the fractionated distillation of regular air at extremely cold temperatures. The air is so cold it is considered to be in the cryogenic range. That's cold! Also, this process allows for the production to take place in one column. This saves space and simplifies the reaction in both time and energy.

Air is first compressed, then it is purified in the nitrogen portable generator so that the cryogenic operation does not have any problems. Once the air is compressed to 9 bars, which can be done by either a centrifugal or screw compressor, it then must be cooled down by refrigeration. All this is done in a very simplified manner. Because the air used in the production must be highly purified, it's temperature must be very low. During the purification process, the air is passed through several filters allowing it too cool down to even lower temperatures. The cryogenic temperature is obtained by using a slight bit of liquid nitrogen.

Now, the air is ready to enter the cryogenic process where it can be separated from the nitorgen. This is the most important step in the process. The nitrogen is pulled off the top of the column. This leaves oxygen-rich liquid at the bottom of the column. That is the process in a nutshell. The new generators were designed to be imple and easy to manage.

The whole process can be controlled automatically with no manual intervention. The nitrogen portable generator is designed to handle any problems on its own. When it can not solve the problem, it is designed to shut itself down. There are pressure regulators installed to maintain normal pressure for the nitrogen consumption. If the oxygen level becomes too high, the regulators sense it. The excess oxygen is then ventilated outside keeping the system stable. Another failsafe monitor is based on the oxygen levels. If the oxygen levels appear elevated and do not decrease appropriately, the system will also shut down.

As said before, the system practically runs itself. The safety precautions are there to make sure the generator performs the stated production of nitrogen, but also to prevent damage or injury to the equipment and working environment. If nitrogen is what you need, and you don't want to spend more money on buying it away from where it is needed. Consider purchasing a new generator to produce your own in-house and more cost effective.
