Portable Generator - 3 Solar Portable GeneratorsPortable Generator Article3 Solar Portable GeneratorsWe looked at a solar portable generator that comes in three models. The first model is a 12 amp AC unit with a 150 watt inverter. The second model is a 12 amp DC unit and the third is a 30 amp DC unit. All three units have twenty foot 12/2 cables with DC plugs for input. They don't however come with batteries or modules. You should be sure and price these necessary accessories with the unit when determining what models you are going to purchase. You shold also consider that batteries will have a set life based on how they are used and will need to be replaced at regular intervals. The solar portable generators come factory tested and fully assembled. They are ready to plug in and use when you receive them. The AC model has its inverter switch on the outside of the unit. They all three come with PV module type accessories for mounting. The AC model has a 120VAC socket with an outdoor weatherproof cover. It also has a 150 watt internal inverter. Because they come with battery meters, you will always know the status of your charge with these solar portable generators. They are safe and durable and have separate fusion of all sockets, nonbreakable enclosures, and are resistant to weather and corrosion. The solar panels for these portable generators make them DC chargeable so they are friendly to the environment. These are made for home use and come with 2 DC sockets that can handle up to 90 watts each. Though not powerful, these units work for home use and can be recharged from a solar module or an optional AC battery charger. The portable generators come fully integrated and generates either AC or DC electricity very quietly. It is best suited for running lights, fans, laptops, small televisions or power tools. Appliances with compressors are probably beyond the scope of what these units will be able to power. Be sure you understand that AC and DC voltage is not interchangable and that if you have a DC unit, you will need convertors to run your AC equipment off of it. Likewise, an AC unit will require adapters to run DC equipment. These portable solar generators will not power more than a few lights and a radio or television and might be better suited for camping trips rather then extrended home use. However, they would prove excellent for that, other than hauling batteries around to store the electricity.
